Dear FCA Parent:

We are excited to be able to offer you online achievement testing at home! The Stanford Achievement Test is NOT timed and your student is encouraged to answer each question to the best of their ability. Typically, a student will have 7-10 subtests, and testing can take up to 4-6 hours. Students are given the option to test in 1 day and recommended to stop mid-day for lunch and then continue testing after lunch or they may test for 2-3 hours over a 2-day period if preferred. This decision is to be made at the discretion of the parent as you know what will work best for your student!

It’s important to let the student know ahead of time that we will be testing below, on, and above their grade level. This means that they may find some questions easy and they may not know some of the answers to the questions that are harder because some questions are above their grade level. Students should be encouraged to do their best, stretch, and move around between tests. Also, take a bathroom break and get a snack or drink water as needed.

Please make sure your student has a protein-rich breakfast and plenty of rest the night before taking their tests. Please provide the student with a quiet space, void of interruptions, so that the student can use all their efforts on testing without distractions. Students may have a calculator (4th grade & up), scratch paper, and a pencil to take notes, but they do not need to have anything else such as electronic devices or school books near them during the test.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Download the secure lockdown browser:

    Windows & Mac Computers:
    Visit  www.pearson.programworkshop.com.
Click the tab, “DOWNLOAD SECURE BROWSER.” If it asks you to link the device to your institution click, “SKIP THIS STEP.
Download the Secure link by clicking the run or save button. This will ensure that your computer is only being used to take the test at this time and no toggling or other features on the computer will be permitted to be used while testing. This ensures the integrity of the test.
    iPad & Chromebook:
Search for the “MHS Beyond” app in the Apple or Google Play store. MHS Beyond provides secure, locked-down testing for students on iPad and Chromebook devices.

  2. Next, you will be asked to enter a session number and then prompted to enter your first and last name and date of birth, then click log-in. You will then experience a brief hold while your teacher approves you to begin the test. If proctor approval takes more than a couple of minutes, please contact us at 615-847-3999 ext 102, message us on our website chat, or reply to the email to let us know which subtest is pending approval. Session numbers expire at the end of the day. You will be issued new session numbers if you are testing over a 2-day period. Your computer may require you to follow the same instructions each time you enter a new session number, if so go back to #3 and follow the instructions again.

  3. Finally, begin your test, do your best, and know that FCA and the staff are praying for your success as you complete your year-end test!

Stanford Achievement Test and Sub Tests

Notice not all grade levels take every test, it varies. All students will test on their enrolled grade level unless the student has an IEP in place and special modifications need to be made. If so, please notify the school.

Test ranges in time but they are untimed so the student should take their time to answer to the best of their ability. As you log into each of your tests, you will be given session numbers, please mark off the tests that you complete so that you can ensure that your student took all the necessary tests for their grade level, otherwise results will not be complete.

When Will I Get The Test Results?

The results of the Stanford Achievement Test online will take up to two weeks to arrive and the results will be sent to you by e-mail. This is much quicker than the paper book tests that are normally administered in the spring.

How Do I Understand the Test Results?

The score that you want to review when the results arrive is the NPR score, this stands for National Percentile Ranking. This score will have a double-digit number followed by a single-digit number (ex: 52-7). The single-digit number to the right is how we understand how well your student performed. The test results will range from 1-9. Here is a breakdown of what that means.

Scores from 1 to 3 = Below Average
Scores from 4 to 6 = Average
Scores from 7 to 9 = Above Average

Students are given a score between a 1 and a 9 on each subtest, and then an overall score. If your student scores between 1 and a 3 on any subtest, it is considered below average, this is a good indication that remedial support is necessary for that subject as it indicates students are not mastering or retaining the concepts well enough to answer the questions correctly. If your student scores between a 4 and a 6, this is an average score and is confirmation that your student is on target for mastery and retention in their grade level. If your student scores between a 7 and a 9, then they are in the top percent in their knowledge in this subtest area.
